Here is my truck with a new look. I figured if I had fuel injection, that I should also have the injected look. This is a 93 Dodge grill. I know, its not OEM, its missing the DODGE letters. But it was all I could find. Believe it or not, not one salvage yard where I live has a 92 or newer dodge. One salvage yard said he could order the grill, so I did. I actually got the grill about 3 years ago, and never installed it. I was having a hard time finding parts. When I had to replace my motor, I figured now would be a good time to mount the new front. There are a few ways to add a 93 front to a 73 & up. One way is to find a wrecked 91-93 and just buy the whole front, including the core support. This page will describe how I did the conversion. First I got the grill, then the core support. The core support I got was for 93 diesel. I did not know the radiator support was different, so now I got an extra core support. I ended up using an 80-core support. I got the square buckets from a salvage yard. They came off a 90 Dodge, although I've been told any square bucket will work. I cut the round bucket supports off the core support. This left a nice large oval opening. I was told by another Dodge truck owner who converted his nice truck to a 93 front, that I would need some extender behind the buckets. He used a newer core though, cause on this 80 core, the buckets fit in the ovals, and lined up fairly nice with the grill. In this picture you can see where the original round light was on the driver side. I had to drill 3 holes to hold the bucket to the core. I added a spring on the bottom to pull the bottom towards the core support. The spring came from the rear brakes (old springs, I'm not going to go beakless for a new look).
I had to buy the new turn single lamps too, And a valance. Note the valance in not visible, cause its not installed yet. its not installed yet cause it has not yet arrived. It's not perfect, but it looks very nice. The hood does not line up exact to the grill, but it sits so high, that only a tall person would notice. The install went fairly easy. The holes on the core support lined up nicely with the grill. If you have questions you can E-mail me and I will try to help. dkingery@hotmail.com cost: Grill $150 (3 years ago) new (NOT OEM) Core support $50? ( I got the core from one of my parts trucks) Headlight buckets $20 for both with lights and mounting hardware. Turn single lamps $28 each new. Valance $28 new. Total actual time was about 3 hours.
